Sir Ranulph Fiennes and Marie Curie entrusted Fieldcraft Studios to film the ‘Global Reach Challenge’ Sir Ranulph’s attempt to climb the highest mountain on every continent and cross both polar ice-caps.

The Global Reach Challenge

Sir Ranulph Fiennes, in order to raise funds for Marie Curie, embarked on an audacious challenge known as the ‘Global Reach Challenge,’ aiming to both conquer the highest peaks on every continent and traverse both polar ice-caps.

Entrusting Fieldcraft Studios with the task of filming this epic adventure, Sir Ranulph’s mission was to raise funds for Marie Curie’s terminal illness care and support.

With filming locations spanning remote corners of the globe, including the icy vastness of Antarctica and the rugged landscapes of West Papua, Fieldcraft Studios captured the gripping action and produced live broadcasts for BBC Breakfast and other national broadcast media outlets.

Fieldcraft Studios produced this film about Sir Ranulph Fiennes and his extraordinary challenges. It features footage shot by us on Everest, in the Sahara and training in the UK. As well we footage from Sir Ranulph’s own archive.

Our longstanding partnership with Sir Ranulph ensured a seamless understanding of his vision and objectives. Based on our organisational expertise and experience Sir Ranulph also tasked Fieldcraft Studios with managing the entire expedition.

In collaboration with Marie Curie, we secured a media partnership with BBC Breakfast, further enhancing the reach and impact of Sir Ranulph’s fundraising efforts.

Challenges

The Global Reach Challenge presented Fieldcraft Studios with a myriad of challenges, from navigating treacherous terrains to delivering live broadcasts in adverse weather conditions.

Securing vital sponsorship from satellite communications provider Inmarsat was instrumental in overcoming logistical hurdles and ensuring the feasibility of live broadcasts from remote locations.

Despite facing gale-force winds and rugged terrain, our team remained steadfast in their commitment to capturing every moment of Sir Ranulph’s remarkable journey.

Our Approach

Fieldcraft Studios adopted a multifaceted approach, combining storytelling prowess with meticulous planning and execution.

Prior to the expedition, we produced compelling films and photography content showcasing Sir Ranulph’s rigorous training sessions in the UK, providing a glimpse into the preparation behind the challenge.

Each location’s narrative was meticulously storyboarded, identifying challenges and story arcs to encapsulate the essence of Sir Ranulph’s journey.

Our intrepid cameraman, David Carter, accompanied Sir Ranulph, capturing breathtaking footage and managing live broadcasts often in the face of very adverse weather conditions.

Deliverables

Fieldcraft Studios delivered a comprehensive suite of deliverables, including films, photography content, and live broadcasts, showcasing Sir Ranulph’s extraordinary quest in support of Marie Curie.

We provided Marie Curie’s PR team with compelling visuals and short films to facilitate media coverage efforts, amplifying the impact of Sir Ranulph’s endeavour and fundraising efforts.

In addition, we produced a suite of films for the headline sponsor, TMF, for their own marketing and internal communications purposes.
